History of Château Miranda

Château Miranda was built in 1866 by architect Edward Milner for the Liedekerke-Beaufort family. The castle was originally used as a summer home, but during World War II, it was used as a school and orphanage for children. After the war, the castle was returned to the Liedekerke-Beaufort family and remained in their possession until the 1990s.

Unfortunately, the castle was too expensive to maintain, and the family decided to abandon it. The castle has since been the subject of several preservation efforts, but none have been successful. Due to its deteriorating state and safety concerns, the Belgian authorities decided to demolish the castle in 2017.

Architecture and Design

Château Miranda was designed in the Gothic Revival style, which was popular during the 19th century. The castle was situated on a hill, giving it a commanding view of the surrounding countryside. The exterior of the castle was characterized by its pointed arches, turrets, and stained glass windows. The interior of the castle was just as impressive, with grand staircases, ornate ceilings, and intricate woodwork.
