Jester is a heartwarming children’s book about a girl named Chloé who learns the true value of kindness and self-discovery after receiving a jester doll instead of the princess shoes she had hoped for on her birthday.

Jester is a children’s book that I had the pleasure of co-creating with a talented group of peers during my studies in Media and Entertainment Management at the Breda University of Applied Sciences. Our task was to conceive, write, illustrate, and produce a book that taught young readers a valuable life lesson within the tight deadline of six weeks.

Inspired by Neil Gaiman’s captivating book Coraline, the story of Jester revolves around Chloé, a spirited girl who longs to live the life of a princess. Her hopes are dashed when she receives a jester doll instead of the princess shoes she had wished for. Disappointed and frustrated, Chloé falls asleep that night only to be awoken by the jester doll, who magically transports her to a world where she can live out her dream of being a princess.

Through a series of misadventures and challenges, Chloé comes to learn that the life of a princess is not always as perfect as it seems. With the help of the jester doll, she discovers that true happiness comes not from material possessions, but from inner strength, resilience, and the love of family and friends.

Jester is not just a delightful tale that will capture the imagination of young readers but also a profound lesson on the values that truly matter in life.
